SciClone completed a phase 3 clinical trial in Japan using ZADAXIN as a monotherapy to treat patients chronically infected with HBV.  The study showed that 20% of patients treated with ZADAXIN achieved a sustained response and no significant side effects were noted.  These results compare favorably to the data from separate studies for other HBV therapies.

Currently, SciClone is enrolling up to 120 patients in a clinical trial in Taiwan using ZADAXIN in combination with lamivudine for the treatment of HBV.  Previously reported data from small pilot trials suggest that ZADAXIN combination therapy could increase the response rate for patients taking lamivudine or interferon alone.
